Policies, publications, and reports of local, state, or federal government entities are "Government Documents." They have their own organization system (SuDocs), which associates them with a particular department and agencies within that department.
The Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) was established by an act of Congress in 1813 to ensure public access to government information. FDLP has multiple classifications corresponding to how much government information must be housed in each library, and in addition to online access Nielsen Library has a dedicated Government Documents section on the second floor by the Grizzly Testing & Learning Center. The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) mandated that agencies establish a regular schedule for review and release of de-classified information when it was no longer considered necessary to classify it, & established procedures for non-governmental entities to request the de-classification and release of specific documents.
