  • Prison Education Program (PEP) support staff here on campus
  • Faculty/instructors
  • Education Coordinators within individual facilities

Incarcerated Student / PEP Library Support

Nielsen Library strives to provide high-quality, relevant information to all our students in a timely manner. This includes our Correspondence Education students enrolled while incarcerated. Our campus mission is "to serve and empower all students, especially those from historically underserved populations," and our correspondence students certainly fit that criteria!

The Distance Learning Librarian is able to provide students (and family!) with information to support academic research and course completion and success. This most often includes academic research in the form of journal articles and eBook chapters, but can also include other web-based information such as business reports and news stories featuring business leaders.

Most often, this research process is conducted via snail mail in roughly this pattern:

  1. Student mails letter requesting research.
  2. I reply with 30+ citations (including descriptions when available) that should broadly match the topic.
  3. Student picks articles they think will be the most interesting/relevant, and mail me the list.
  4. I print and provide the articles.
  5. If my preliminary list does not meet the student's needs, they can request new and different searches, and/or additional articles -- research is never a one-and-done thing!

Some students have internet privileges -- or family members able to provide support -- and some institutions have Education Coordinators who are able to email me directly. This cuts down on the snail-mail delays, but is not essential for successful communication.

Please feel free to reach out to me with questions about any and all resources, and if I'm not able to help directly, I promise to find out who can help!

Typically, I am not able to provide information on the following topics, but I am willing to facilitate communication with other campus colleagues, including PEP staff and faculty:

  • Transcripts
  • Scholarships
  • Syllabi
