Finding a Business Case

How to Find a Business Case Using

LexisNexis Academic      I        Google Scholar

Step 1: Go to LexisNexis

Step 2: Search for your Case

By Topic
By Law Reviews
By Citation or Parties

Enter in either your citation information (607 F. 3d 68) OR your party names. If you are using party names, make sure you have the date and the court that the case was tried in. Cases must have a verdict and be in a state court or higher to be included in LexisNexis legal cases.

If you are searching by party name you will often get more than one entry. Use your knowledge of the trial date and court the case was tried in to select the right case.

Step 3: Do a Quick Evaluation of your Case

  • Read the Case Summary (in the gray) for a quick introduction into the case.
  • Do a quick scroll through to see how long the case is.
  • Pay attention to the Headnotes, which show the key legal points of each case.
  • Use Subsequent History and Prior History to get to connected cases.

Step 4: Save your Case

Save your Case

  • Default is to save as a word document.
